AdPerks - Install Process

Background:

The Newspress uses Adperks software with Quark to create ads as well as update customer information. The app owner for this software is Amber Casada.

Local Install Steps:

Map the following drives for local AdPerks users.

Navigate to \\npg-itstore\storage\Software Repository\Drive Mapping Scripts and double-click AdPerks Drive Mappings.bat to automatically map the drives or manually add them using the following paths: 

B: \\clas_serv\BRAINWORKS
F: \\clas_serv\BW_CLASS
I: \\bigmac2\mac2mets
G: \\clas_serv\CLSLogo
T: \\clas_serv\etearsheets

 

Create ODBCs, both 32 and 64 bit with the name bw1 and Brainworks. Use sa as the user and S3qu3L1 as the password.

  1. Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > ODBC Data Sources.
  2. If you are on Windows 10 you should have access to both the 32 and 64 bit versions of ODBC Data Sources right from Administrative Tools. 
  3. If you are on Windows 7 you may need to brows to C:\Windows\Syswow64 to find ODBCad32.exe.
  4. Both ODBC 32 and 64 bit need to be setup.
  5. Add the following under the System DSN tab.
  6. Select SQL Server
  7. Name and Description: Brainworks
  8. Server: npg-sql
  9. Next
  10. Select "With SQL Server authentication using a login ID password entered by the user", and use the following credentials for the Login ID and password.
  11. Login ID: sa
  12. Password (see information in Lastpass NPG-SQL server)
  13. Next
  14. Change the default database to Brainworks.
  15. Next
  16. Accept defaults on last page and Finish.
  17. Test Data Source. If it passes you did everything right. If it fails you messed up somewhere. Try again.
  18. Repeat this process for ODBC 32 and 64 using Brainworks as the name and description, and then again using bw1 for the name and description. All in all you should do this process four times. Have two FOR BRAINWORKS two FOR BW1

INSTALL JAVA and Copy Java File:

  1. Navigate to \\np-bw-class\BrainworksTemp\For NPG Install
  2. Install jre-8u201-windows-i586 as administrator into its default location. 
  3. Navigate to \\np-bw-class\BrainworksTemp\For NPG Install
  4. Copy the file sqljdbc.jar and paste it in the location: Program Files (x86)/java/jre-8u201/lib/ext folder.

Disable UAC Script

  1. Copy and Past the cmd.exe on the computer desktop labeled Disable UAC and Reboot script located in \\np-bw-class\BrainworksTemp\InstallFiles

Install Quark and Copy Quark Extensions: 

  1. Install Quark in the Program Files (x86)/Quark/QuarkXPress 9/ directory. Quark9 Install https://npgco.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115010121488-Quark-9-Install
  2. After Quark is installed go to \\np-bw-class\BrainworksTemp\For NPG Install\Xtension copy the contents of the folder and paste those files into Program Files (x86)/Quark/QuarkXPress 9/XTension folder.
  3. Go to \\np-bw-class\BrainworksTemp\For NPG Install Copy the BWXTSetup file and paste it into the Program Files (x86)/Quark/QuarkXPress 9/XTensions folder. *** Make sure the BWPrefsType=1 (You’ll find this under XTSetup at the bottom of the file)

File Transfer:

  1. Go to \\np-bw-class\BrainworksTemp\For NPG Install\Xtension
  2. Copy the contents of the folder “For C Drive" to the C: drive of the computer getting Local Adperks.
  3. Copy over the shortcut called "AdPerks Use" to the desktop from the folder \\np-bw-class\BrainworksTemp\For NPG Install\
  4. Copy the System DLL Folder content to the following locations: C:/Windows/System32 and C:/Windows/SysWOW64
  5. Double click the Adperks Desktop icon to start the program.  This will create the brainworks program files. If you get a pop-up from Xtensions Loading error click ignore. Once it has opened you may close it. This step creates the folders needed for step 6.
  6. Go to C:/user/<username>/appdata/roaming/brainworks/QuarkXPress/BWPreferences. Copy BWXTAuthorize and XTReg files from \\np-bw-class\BrainworksTemp\For NPG Install\
  7. Exit Quark and re-launch it by double-clicking on the Adperks Use Icon
  8. In Adperks Use click on Disabled then Switch to and Sales. This requires a Brainworks login to connect to BW database.
  9. You will get an error about an Adperk.dat failed not existing. Click Okay. This is a normal pop-up.Screen_Shot_2021-03-01_at_2.27.03_PM.png

  11. If the user doesn't have a login or doesn't know it contacts the App owner Amber Casada. 
  12. Once the message at the top of the loading screen finishes loading the system is ready to use. 

 

 

Troubleshooting: Login Screen

Troubleshooting: Quark User Preferences Corrupted

If a user tries to open AdPerks and Quark just closes without any errors and AdPerks never opens the user's preferences may be corrupted. Go to the following location on the user's computer and delete the QuarkXPress 9 folder. \\(Users Computer Name)\c$\Users\(Users Username)\AppData\Local\Quark. This worked for Ticket #17934.***

Remote Install

1. Log in to the computer as an administrator.

2. Navigate to \\np-bwterm1\Install

3. Double-Click on AdPerks.

4. Log in as the user who needs access to the app.

5. Repeat steps 2 and 3. 

 

The Site Number Pop-UP: Depends on the location
