Trouble Shooting Internet Outage

If you are not able to connect to the internet, it can be quite frustrating.  This article is designed to help you help us get to the bottom of the issue as quickly as possible.  There are several steps you can take to help us get started in the right direction.  If you have a ticket open already, then you can update your ticket with the answers to the following questions.  If you haven't opened a ticket, you can open one in a new window and keep this article up.  Add the answers to the following questions to your ticket so we can have the best information possible to get the internet back up quickly for you.

 

First, are there others around you that are having the same issue?  

If Not,

This issue may only be with your computer, then we will know to start looking there first instead of at our other systems and working our way toward your computer.  If you have a phone at your desk as well, see if it is displaying properly.  If it is not, or if it off completely, this information would be helpful for us to know how to get to the issue quicker.  

 

If Yes,

 

Then we will know to look at the systems that would affect that situation.  You If you have a phone at your desk as well, see if it is displaying properly.  Also look at other phones around you.  If they are not displaying properly, or if they are off completely, this information would be helpful for us to know how to get to the issue quicker.  

 

Can you get to internal services such as file shares?

If Yes or No,

Please tell us so we have this information to trouble shoot with.

 

Open a command window on your windows machine by going to start and typing "cmd" (without the " " )

A black window should appear on your screen.  type in the following

ping google.com

copy or screen shot the results and put them in your ticket.

ping 8.8.8.8

copy or screen shot the results and put them in your ticket.

tracert 8.8.8.8

copy or screen shot the results and put them in your ticket.

 

The more information you can give us about the issue, the quicker we can track down the issue and get it resolved.  We
